Reality Store

Each year, Toyota of Hopkinsville participates in the Reality Store Program at Hopkinsville High School,  Christian County High School and Fort Campbell High School.  This program is a joint endeaver of the UK College of Agriculture, 4-H and the Hopkinsville Chamber of Commerce.

The Realty Store is a simulation game in which students identify their career interests, research a specific career, and receive a mock checkbook with the monthly income entered for the specific career, based on their GPA.  Students then visit booths manned by community members at which they pay their monthly bills.  At each booth, student make decisions concerning the standard of living they’ll assume.  For example, at the transportation booth (manned by a Toyota of Hopkinsville representative), students decide if they want to purchase a used car or truck or a new one.  The goal is to finish the month and still have some money left over after paying all their bills.

This years' Reality Store events were on March 16th (at Hopkinsville High School), March 23rd (at Christian County High School) and April 7th (at Fort Campbell High School) with Toyota of Hopkinsville manning the 'Transportation' store at each event.  For a more details, click here.

Earth Day Event Celebrated at Trail of Tears Commemorative Park

On Wednesday, April 22, 2009, the Trail of Tears Commission, Hopkinsville Electric System/EnergyNet, Tennessee Valley Authority, Hopkinsville Beautification Commission, the Cooperative Extension Service, Hopkinsville Christian County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau and Kiwanis Club sponsored an Earth Day Celebration, recognizing the annual event of global environmental citizenship.  The local Earth Day Event was held at the Trail of Tears Commemorative Park on Pembroke Road and attracted over 300 visitors who educated themselves on environmentally-friendly products and enjoyed a light picnic lunch.

Organizers kicked-off the event with an historical reflection of the Native-American Park, comments from City and County officials and the unveiling of a Solar Demonstration Project recently installed by Hopkinsville Electric System at the Trails of Tears Visitors Cabin.  The 2,700 kilowatt-hour per year solar panel was installed to demonstrate renewable or green power alternatives and is expected to generate electricity for 25 years or more. During this time span, the clean energy produced by the panel will eliminate approximately 90,000 lbs. of CO2 emissions, an equivalent environmental effect of planting 13 acres of trees.  The annual event is held each year on National Earth Day.

Toyota of Hopkinsville participated in this Earth Day Event, displaying Toyota's Hybrid Vehicle's, Prius, Camry and Highlander. These vehicles were available for all to see and Toyota of Hopkinsville employees were there to answer questions. This was the second year Toyota of Hopkinsville has participated in this event and we look forward to everyone joining us there next year.
